Kingston Youth Awards Celebrate Outstanding Achievements in 2024.

Kala was named Kingston’s Young Citizen of the Year, a recognition of her incredible resilience and determination. Despite living with severe vision impairment, she has not only excelled academically but also demonstrated extraordinary adaptability. Beyond the classroom, Kala introduced blind tennis to Cheltenham, creating an inclusive space for children with vision impairments to participate in sports. Her initiative has fostered a supportive community, empowering others and promoting social connection. Kala's dedication to breaking down barriers makes her a true role model, inspiring a more inclusive future for all.

Meanwhile, the Dingley Venturers Unit was awarded Young Community Group of the Year. Known as the most active Venturer unit in Kingston, they are recognized for their teamwork, community spirit, and unwavering commitment to service. The group mentors younger scouts, volunteers at ANZAC Day services, assists with park cleanups, and supports Kingston community events. Their commitment to fostering volunteerism and leadership is evident, with 80% of the unit working towards the prestigious Queen’s Scout Award—an indication of their drive to become future leaders.

Kingston Mayor Jenna Davey-Burns praised the winners and finalists, who represent the best and brightest young people in the city.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have so many young people in Kingston taking active roles in our community. We’re proud to host this event to highlight their positive contributions,” Cr Davey-Burns said. “Their stories of leadership are inspiring, driving positive change across our city. I’m excited to follow their journeys and see the great things they will achieve.”

The Kingston Youth Awards continue to celebrate the talents, dedication, and community-minded spirit of young people, marking them as leaders of tomorrow.
