๐ฃ Our Youth Advisory Committee plays a crucial role in amplifying the voices of young people within the community.โ๏ธ They advocate for young people by ensuring their needs and concerns are represented in key decision-making processes. By offering valuable advice to council, the committee helps shape strategic decisions that impact young people ensuring their perspectives are considered in areas like education, employment and community development.โ๐ผ Additionally, they are involved in consulting and developing our youth strategy, fostering an environment where young people have a direct say in their future.๐กHaving young people actively involved in local government brings many benefits for them and the broader community. When young people have a voice, they develop a deeper understanding of civic processes and gain a sense of ownership over their community. ๐ Mentone Girls Secondary College Mindfulness Program (Junior Years) ๐๐ผ In 2023 we were thrilled to be to one of the 180 local ideas VicHealth gave through JumpStart!. As we conclude these programs and services itโs time to celebrate some amazing wins from this program. ๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธToday we conclude a four-week mindfulness and breathwork program at Mentone Girls Secondary College. This program supported the junior years and allowed any young person to drop in and try a free session. โ๐ผ Today we received the following feedback after participating in these session lead by Wildsoul employee Candice: ๐ Key highlights or benefits:โBeing nice and relaxedโโFeeling goodโโBetter at being calmโโI feel calmerโโGoing to sleep quickerโ #calming #fun #amazing #relaxing #perfectThe program also increased young peopleโs confidence to try other health and wellness programs on their own. The event was filled with energy and excitement as our team connected with attendees, offering guidance and sharing valuable career insights. It was fantastic to see so many bright minds eager to learn about their future career options. โจ๐กOne of the highlights was asking the young people about their dream jobs. We were inspired by the range of answers, it was a great reminder of the limitless potential and creativity that young people possess. How can young people prepare themselves to tackle some of these challenges? Without the right environment, this process can be challenging and isolating.๐๐ผ A supportive, safe and inclusive setting fosters healthy relationships, provides a sense of belonging and encourages personal growth. These spaces allow young people the freedom to express themselves without fear of judgment or exclusion which is vital for their overall wellbeing and development.๐ค๐ผ Platform 81โs Drop In Program offers exactly these kinds of opportunities. It provides a welcoming space for young people to connect with their peers and experienced youth workers in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. The program focuses on creating an atmosphere where every individual feels respected, valued and heard, where young people can discuss challenges, share experiences and develop skills for both personal and social growth.๐๐ผ Running every Friday during the school term from 3-5pm for young people 12-25 with links to Kingston (live, work, study).
