Bayside Glen Eira Kingston Youth Network (BGKYN) brings together services and organisations within the areas of Bayside, Glen Eira and Kingston who work with young people and their families.

The purpose of the network is to foster collaborative work, explore stronger partnerships and work together to identify gaps and do what we can to improve systemic challenges young people face when accessing services and further support.

Our last meeting focused on ‘Youth and Housing’ with @launchhousing leading the presentation and discussions around how we can work together to improve outcomes for young people in our communities.

👍🏼 In 2023 we were thrilled to be to one of the 180 local ideas VicHealth gave through JumpStart!. As we conclude these programs and services it’s time to celebrate some amazing wins from this program.
 
🧘🏻‍♀️Today we conclude a four-week mindfulness and breathwork program at Mentone Girls Secondary College. This program supported the junior years and allowed any young person to drop in and try a free session.

Our Art Club provides a supportive community where young people can connect, learn new skills and collaborate on creative projects.

The final years of high school can be a stressful time for young people and their families. Students are facing significant exam and study pressures alongside a growing need for independence and the challenges of being a young adult….so how can parents navigate this period? How can young people prepare themselves to tackle some of these challenges? And how can families arm themselves with the resources to understand what coping strategies are available and how to utilise them? 🤔

✨ Back by popular demand, Dr Amanda Mullin will explore the common challenges students and their parents may encounter and focus on the importance of mental health during the last years of school.

👉🏼 By attending the session, you will be able to develop the tools and strategies to support your VCE or VM student and encourage them to stay motivated, seek support and achieve their best in their schooling.

✌🏼 It’s important for young people to have safe and inclusive spaces where they can engage with their peers during a time in their lives where they are forming their identities, building social skills and navigating complex emotions. Without the right environment, this process can be challenging and isolating.

👌🏼 A supportive, safe and inclusive setting fosters healthy relationships, provides a sense of belonging and encourages personal growth. These spaces allow young people the freedom to express themselves without fear of judgment or exclusion which is vital for their overall wellbeing and development.

🤙🏼 Platform 81’s Drop In Program offers exactly these kinds of opportunities. It provides a welcoming space for young people to connect with their peers and experienced youth workers in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. The program focuses on creating an atmosphere where every individual feels respected, valued and heard, where young people can discuss challenges, share experiences and develop skills for both personal and social growth.

✌🏼We are a fundraising committee supporting families in need. Our stall will be running competitions, prizes and giveaways with donations made. Our stall will be offering limited Mother’s Day bracelets in exchange for donations.

There’ll also be:
🌼 Free craft stations to make Mother’s Day cards, sun catchers, personalised candles and more
🌼 Free face painting
🌼 Fun and photos with famous mums, including Mrs Incredible, Princess Leia, Kath Day-Knight, and Fairy Godmother
🌼 Photo booth for take-home photos of family and/or friends
🌼 A ‘cash machine’ you can step into and win gift cards and great prizes from our local businesses
